Anyone had Youtube Copyright claim which caused your uploaded guitar playing video removed?

Copyrighting is really necessary if you want to publish. It's easier if you do it an album at a time and use an aggregator (tunecore etc) You'll need to send in an official copy with the paperwork. I send physical media and paper scores on stuff I've done. If you do derivatives you'll need to pay licensing feesandinclude the licensing.

If you hope to make money you should join ASCAP or BMI.

I've filed for copyrights, mostly to avoid any legal issues that might crop up down the road. We're all friends today, but tomorrow you just never know.

Have not joined ASCAP or BMI, as I don't really care about making money. Then again there is my pride and I don't need some skel creating a derivative work, using it in a movie score or something and then trying to cut me out. Screw that, and it does happen.

From my own logic, I cannot understand how they can claim copyright, when my own guitar playing along the song is the content, which is now totally sounding different from the original. It would be only copyright claimable, if the uploaded video content was exactly and identical to the original. Also it would only make sense if the uploaded video was making any type of monetary gains. There was not even a penny made from the video. It was really for educational video - learning how to play guitar.
There is the concept of fair use, IF you are using it for education purposes rather than iploading for personal satisfaction or to share your mad guitar skills with the world, but that is a fight the likes of Rick Beato (or rather, his lawyer) take on.

Personally, I think some of these groups who use such services will fade into oblivion.as they will be forgotten without the likes of Professor of Rock or Rick Beato introducing them to new audiences.

For us little guys? Best to just avoid the issue altogether

I Don't intend to make a lot of income but still have ASCAP. Who knows some movie people may stumble on one of my instrumentals as useful long after I'm gone and my kids will profit. At 73 music is mainly a hobby now. My kids and grandkids all do music as a secondary thing so I have Bry Melvin Music as an ascap member too.

I used to be a member of ASHAT for the same reason, but I have no idea whether I still am a member. Wonder if they have been snagging my dues from my charge card.
