So The Doctor plays guitar in the new series of Doctor Who. But what is it? A Hamer?

He explains why they didn't choose a Strat in this interview, but doesn't say what they actually chose.

I have never watched Doctor Who but am intrigued.

They used to run an earlier series on PBS here, but I never really watched it.

Might give this a try if I can find it on Netflix.

Do that... Season 1 of the new series might be a bit to get through but the seasons get better and better as the budget and writing gets better. Its hard for me to watch any other shows now because nothing really compares to the enjoyment i get from Doctor Who now.

They are up to date on netfilx with the exception of the new season that just started.

Thanks! I should have plenty of the Doctor to keep me busy with the first few seasons.... by the time I am ready they will probably have this new season up.

Thanks again

in the 70s peter capaldi was in a punk band with craig ferguson former late night tv host

In his last TV role before becoming The Doctor, Capaldi played the very unpleasant (but very funny), bullying & very sweary political spin doctor, Malcolm Tucker. Quite a contrast to his present role! Look up Malcolm Tucker on YouTube if you want, but not if you're easily offended. Mr. Tucker turned swearing into an art form.

Ferguson interviews Capaldi here from 6 years ago, discussing things that maybe Capaldi wouldn't want to discuss now.

By Series 1, you mean with Chris Eccleston as The Dr.? I thought he was brilliant.

Yes. I liked him too. I just meant some of the visual effects are a bit on the cheese side compared to the later seasons. Eccleston was great though. I was bummed he wasn't in the film that was released with the cameo of all the previous doctors.

the writing and budget takes a leap forward in season 3 but I still like 1 and 2

Yes you may be right. But since I approached the new (Russell T. Davies) Doctor with memories of the original version, I thought the effects were amazing! But they probably did get better. But it was the quality of the acting that got me.

I'm still not entirely sure why he refused to come back for that episode that featured Tennant & Smith. I believe that Eccleston had a falling out with some of the top BBC folk, but I'm not sure what it was about. It's a shame, he would have been a great addition to that. I think he's an excellent actor.
