I'm working up to those! You know it's weird regarding how long they last. I've heard some people say they hate Stringjoy bc they're pricey and they don't last as long as EB or D'Addario. I've never had that experience but I typically wipe my strings down real well after extended play so who knows?

I've tried StringJoy a couple of times because I liked the idea of making a custom string gauge. I love 9-46 on my Strat, so I wanted a 10-48 for my Les Paul and no one offered that set.

But for whatever reason, all the StringJoy strings I've tried corroded almost immediately. I wipe down my strings after use, but that didn't make a difference with StringJoy. One long jam session finished off each set of those strings. DR strings also did that when I tried them. So I stick with EB and D'addario because they don't corrode immediately and last a decent amount of time.

I also ended up trying 9-46 on my Les Paul and kinda liked it. Huge bends were effortless :thumb: But my band decided to tune down to D, so had to go to 10-52s on that guitar now.

I think it must be different people having differing PH levels or something?

I haven't had that issue at all with the strings but I think my fingers, sweat or whatever don't mess up strings easily. I can't even remember the last time I've actually broken a string of any brand from playing em.

I restrung three of my strats earlier today. Two got D'Addario 9.5-44s, and then my Highway One always gets Ernie and Bert's Regular Slinkies. I recently switched to the 9.5s and love 'em.

I broke a 10 on my 24.75 scale guitar so I replaced the G B high E with Ernie Ball slinky but kept the others. So for a trial period I have D'Addario 46 36 26 and Ernie Ball 16 11 9. I'll try this for awhile to see how it feels, so far I like it.

Odd match of string brands I know. I think after awhile I'll put the rest of the E.B's on and try running a straight set of 9's. I've never tried 9's on a 24.75 scale and seems like the perfect time to experiment while I'm half way there.

I’ve just spotted this thread as I’m about to make the same change from 9s to hybrids on my new Strat. I’m running the same gauge on my 90s MIM Tele and PRS and have for ages now, but as my Strat came fitted with 9s I thought I’d try them first.

This is undoubtedly a noob question but is changing the gauge of the wound strings so fractionally likely to cause problems at the nut?

I’ve also struggled to get the D properly intonated using 9s (the spring is compressed to its limit already) so hopefully I’ll have enough travel if it needs tweaking.

I use Hybrid Slinkys for Strats at concert pitch and regular 10s for tuning down a half step.

Nope, you should be able to go between 9s and 10s with no issues at the nut.
