Remotes were available then and a lot earlier:

I recall seeing and using a similar rudimentary ultrasonic frequency mechanical remote as a kid. Channels up / down one at a time, volume up or down.

Our Maggotbox had the ultrasonic clicker. I discovered that if I dropped Mom's keychain on the tile floor, it would cause the channel to change...

Yes counties. Most people here would know them from the reg plates.

Intercounty rivalry is huge from the GAA.

Which includes the 6 counties from the grey bit.
96 counties in Tennessee, and they also are listed on license plates. Intercounty rivalry is pretty much just a high school sports thing. Although it sometimes comes up in court, when someone files a lawsuit in the wrong place.

I could pick out probably 30 of them on an outline map. I would not be able to name any of them for states I don't live in.

We have this little thing called the All Ireland championship. In both Hurling and (Gaelic) football.

It packs out the 82000 seater croke park and people sell their first born children for a final ticket.

There are teams involved from England and the US at the early stages. We should really call it the world championship. 😁

Does a lot for intercounty rivalry. Lots of other things are done by county also.

The smallest county (by physical size) is Louth at 825 square km. The biggest is Cork at 7500.

I'm guessing it's more of a Southern thing? When I lived in Georgia we had the county on our plates. In Illinois, Indiana and Michigan we've never had them.
