Hi

I have a Vibro Champ XD and love it but the 8 inch speaker was sounding a bit boxy. I bought a 10 inch Super Champ XD speaker and for now have fitted it into the amp, and it sounds wider and crispier and better. But I haven't enlarged the speaker hole yet - so I was wondering if anyone could advise whether there's much benefit from going through the hassle of enlarging the original hole. My (amateur) thoughts were that the 1 inch all round the new 10 inch speaker isn't going to block off much if any of the sound, as the edge of the speaker isn't where most of the sound is projected from? Is that right or wrong?
Grateful for any thoughts on this!

The holes vary, so hard to say, but generally I think it's fine if the wood baffle covers no more than the ribbed/corrugated outer part of the cone.

My house.
Maybe not what youre really asking but, Id grab a 1x12 cab and a 12" speaker of your choice.

I did that with my scxd. It sounds very goodwith a 12" speaker. Im using a Cannabis Rex.

yep, exactly!
if you are handy with woodwork and without dis- and reassembling the grillcloth you could try it with a router (for example cut out a circle for the 10" speaker on another board and use it as a template with a flush bearing bit over the 8" speaker hole). I would temporarily insert something in between the side of the grillcloth and the current baffle in order to minimize the risk of damaging it.
