Hi, buddies
I was just wondering if any of the guys on here with long rocker hair could clarify something for me..If one is growing their hair out now..What point is when you go get it neatened up a bit?(for any raggedy ends..etc)

because
For some reason even though I am an adult..People keep telling me I need to get it cut and I haven't even gotten to middle length long like my favorite players had(60's Clapton, Stevie, Paul Kossof, Angus Young, etc.). And the people ragging on me don't have their hair like that..So I wanted to hear from those guys on here who do have long hair and would actually know, lol.

Basically I am looking for guidance so I don't give in and have to start all over..Thanks!

i just chop all of mine off about every 6 months. right now on top it's about 5 inches long and i'm starting to think about cutting it back to about an inch or two. i've never cared to let my hair get longer than about 6 inches because when it gets that long it starts becoming a hassle to wash/dry.

don't take to heart what anybody else tells you about what you should do with your hair. people are always telling me i need a haircut, but they always have really conservative cuts.

Hey, buddy
Ahh, so I would need maybe another 2 inches and then decide? Right now my hair is about 3 inches long all the way around I think..I was leaning towards getting a light trim in October after seeing where I was at length wise, lol.

Thoughts?

Thanks :) .

P.S
Hope you get your guitars back! I saw your thread..

my ex girlfriend always told me that if you keep your hair trimmed it'll grow faster, but i don't know if it's true or not cause my hair grows fast anyway. i like to keep the sides and back a little shorter so it lays down better and if the hair on the back of my head starts getting too long it starts looking like a mullet, so for the past couple of times that i've got my hair cut i've had them fade the sides. if you're wanting to grow it all out, definitely get a trim every once in a while just to even it up.

thanks man. i've got people helping me look out for them, so if they show anywhere close, i'll know.

There is nothing wrong with getting your hair "cleaned up" when you're trying to grow it out.

Hey, man
Let me try and explain a little better:) . I just was wondering shouldn't I wait till I had the length I wanted before getting a light trim? ..Cause the last time I went..They chopped most of it off because they didn't ask me at all how I wanted it, and my glasses were off so they wouldn't cut them..So I couldn't see  .

Just sort of trying to get guidance so the same thing doesn't happen again..Thanks :) .

@Stratphobic
That is an interesting idea...I might try it :) . Sort of deciding and researching the right place to go to also..Don't wanna go where I went last time where they hacked too much off..Thanks :) .

i've had several of that kind of mistakes. once when i was younger my mom took me to the lady who cuts her hair and the lady razor cut my hair and it looked awful and she really hacked it over my ears. on one side my hair went down to the top of my ear lobe and on the other it came about half way down my ear. i've spent several years trying to find a good place to get my hair cut and along the path to finding a great place i've found several mediocre and a few terrible places. a couple of years ago i had a friend who was in beauty college and she offered to cut my hair and she did a great job, but after a couple of times i stopped having her cut it because she was doing it for free and the only time i would see her was when i needed my hair cut and i felt bad for doing so, so fthis year i finally found a place about 40 minutes or so away that has several people who do great hair cuts and for a reasonable cost. moral of the story is once you find someone who cuts your hair how you like it, keep them.

I had long hair from 2003 to 2009 or so, I just let it go. It looks silly at the inbetween stages, gets kind of poofy like a fro, but it eventually lays down. The key is to do nothing. That's why it has the slacker stereotype about it.

I eventually cut it off when I started balding just a bit, because it looks just plain stupid with a bald spot and long hair, and now I shave my head.

Here's me about 2005 with my long hair. There's nothing to it, you just do nothing for a long time to your hair and it grows out.

yeahh, def. need to find the right place..That is a work in progress for me,lol.

Cause I found a few places that are good but charge $75 for a haircut because they are very fancy..Can't afford that..That's almost the cost of a Boss pedal right there  . Not that I feel the need right now to have more pedals..Just saying as a reference, buddy.

Maybe I could go somewhere where they train stylists and pay to have my hair cut? Might be more in the $30 range then?

Thanks :) .

@Nick
Yeah, that pic you posted was the look I was referring to/want,lol. I guess my best bet is leave my hair alone/not give in for as long as possible and then see where I am at? Then decide?
Cause I know at some point, it will need a bit of trimming in the front so it's like that and not down to my guitar, lol.

Thanks :) .

if she knows what she's doing, let her have at it, but personally i wouldn't let anyone who doesn't know how to properly cut hair anywhere near my head with a pair of scissors.

Very true,lol.

I guess that's sort of the dilemma/holdup I am facing..I don't know the right place or person to go for that style and searching has been fruitless so far :( .

oh, and if a girl tells you she cuts her own bangs, that doesn't mean she can cut hair lol

my ex always told me to find a guy to cut my hair because a guy would better know how to cut a guy's hair, but my thought is that a woman would better know how to cut longer hair.

What style are you going for? for growing traditional long rocker hair, it is free, besides more shampoo you have to use. The idea is that you don't see a barber.

I can't have long hair without having a fro. I grow it out to being nice and big, then trim it to keep it shaped, not shorter. the longest I let it grow is about 4 in. of actual depth, because otherwise it gets hot, and a pain to maintain.
I cut it off recently (it gets hot!) and i regret it now.
