Since nobody has responded to my Jazz King voicing issue, I'm beginning to think I may have a bad amp...

Now I've noticed a weird wolf tone/ dissonant sound when I play an F# anywhere on the neck beyond the 2nd fret.

Any suggestions on what may be causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Grant.

Wolf tones, you might want to try a silver bullet! I know I do sometimes...

These are great amps, but they are kind of finicky as the DPS (digital signal processor) seems to respond inappropriately during certain frequencies, but all in all they seem to do pretty good if you run it through a cab. My best advice is new tubes and a better speaker, or preferably an 8 ohm extension cab with bigger speaker(s). Makes an unbelieveable difference!

The stock 10' speaker is okay for what it does, but if you really want to get the most out of voices like the jazz king then you need to hook up to a bigger cab to open up the bass frequencies.

Also, when I play through the stock special design speaker I sometimes notice a rattle and strange kind of werring noise that comes and goes, but it really seems to get filtered away when I hook up to my cab.

Assuming you don't already have an extension cab, maybe go to guitar center and act interested in buying a cab and hook up your scxd and you'll see what I'm talking about. It will blow your mind.

I still haven't replaced the tubes yet, so you might want to read some threads about the best choices out there, but my guess is that may help some too.

I agree. The SCXD is a different beast coming out of an extension cabinet. I play mine out of a Mesa Boogie 4x12. I also add a BOSS EQ...huge difference.

Hey
I'm in the process of building a Bigger Cab (similar to the 1 below) for my SCXD so I can put in a Weber Vintage Series 12F150 50watt Speaker, and replace the exsisting 6V6 Valves with 2 JJ 6V6 Valves, and put in a 18watt IGOT-M18R OT.

What I suggest you do is what srvwannab said, try your SCXD out at a shop with a extension cab if you can to see the difference, then if you dont want to have to take a extension cab with you a really good upgrade is to buy 2 JJ 6V6 Valves to replace the existing ones and get a Ragin Cajun 10" speaker to replace the existing one, it makes a huge difference

The Original SCXD on the left, the 1 on the right is 2" taller to fit the 12" speaker in

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I noticed that the issue with the F# tones only begins after about 10 minutes of playing, I suspect it's the tubes, everything sounds fine until they get hot. I will start there and see what happens. If it doesn't fix the problem, I'll take it in and try it through an extension cab.

capt goodvibes, I saw those pics in another thread and thought it looked awsome. Like someone else suggested, you should sell those. If you included instructions on how to transfer and mount the "guts" you could sell a million of them. It's hard to tell from the one pic, did you tweed it out?

Again, thanks for the help.

G.
