Looking at used equipment at guitar center. They have items listed as either, in excellent condition or great condition. So what is better?

If you see a guitar you’re interested in… call the shop it’s listed at. Have someone pull it and look it over with you on the phone. Then negotiate the price down. They will negotiate. That is if you like what you hear.

The descriptions mean nothing.

I think great means ok and excellent means give me your money.
Check yourself or get as many pics as you can from GC like @sam_already mentioned.

Take care,
Robin

Would you buy a used car just from online pictures and the "only used by my dearly departed grandma to drive to church on Sundays" description in the ad?

You would think that the geniuses at GC would employ something like a 1-to-5 scale to describe their evaluation of an instruments condition.

e.g.
You #10 ( or 5 ) means you stink
and
You #1 means you're tops.

Excellent to me means close to mint. I would expect a 100% functional instrument.

To me "great" has a wider range. You can have a great guitar that needs a fret job, or has big dings in it.

I feel like I’ve purchased 4 used from GC. One was amazing, a Clapton strat, and could have been a keeper. Wasn’t into it. The others were dogs. I returned all 4 and made a mental note… never again. Oh well.

It does offer an option to save money and there is a return policy and you can play before you pay if you have it shipped to a store near you.
