I’m confused, weren’t these the same pickups in American standards for a while? Custom shop fat 50s? I see they’re $270 whereas the PV stuff is like 140? Are these fat 50s different from what was in production models?

I heard that the fat 50s are sort of just the classic (more modern) fender sound

They were in an Am Std I once had and I thought they were too fat
I much prefer my CS69’s in my AmPro
They actually sound like real vintage Strat pickups

My thoughts, too. Close to $300 pups in a guitar that retailed for around $1100?

For what it's worth - yes the CS Fat 50s are currently $270, but the PV stuff is currently $200.

It was a value add for Fender to include CS pickups in the American Standards - both the Strat and the Tele (which had a CS Twisted Tele neck pickup and a custom variation on the CS Broadcaster bridge pickup). But they were made in the Custom Shop. Also it seems like the MSRP of American Standards went up about $200-$250 when they changed pickups.

I really liked the Fat 50s in the 2013 American Stanard that I had - my favorite Fender pickups prior to having that American Standard were the 57/62 pickups found in the AVRIs. The Fat 50s were pretty close, but as someone said just a bit more modern. But not as modern as the old American Standard alnico 5 pickups (as used from 2008-2011 - and I never could hear any difference between those and the American Series pickups) or the V-Mod pickups in the American Professionals or the V-Mod II pickups in the American Pro IIs.

But got nothing. How are these viewed here? Anybody had them?

At first I thought "That's because he put a useless apostrophe in 50s," but nope... somehow the site search can't find fat 50s posts, here. A Web search on...

fat 50s strat-talk.com

...found these:

I have heard that CS Fat 50s were used in the 'Time Machine' Series '56 Strat.
Nope. Those were “Custom Shop 50s” pickups . Different than Fat 50s. The Custom Shop 50s were also in the 1st generation of A RI 59 thin skin strat also. Both great sounding pickups.

I just picked up a Dave’s ‘62 Ltd. Ed. And it’s advertised as being loaded with Custom Shop Fat 50’s.
Whatever they are, they sound great. They do have quite a bit of girth and are hotter than I was expecting. Love ‘em.
