That's right, you're seeing it correctly, it's gold (plated)! And you thought the brushed Wilkinson splits were hard to find........
Wilkinson custom built only a few of these nuts for Fender/SRV, to be used on the SRV signature Strat prototype (one of the non-split ones was/is on the prototype). YEP, Stevie used a Wilkinson roller nut on it.
They were custom slotted for his string set ( at that time: 11-15-19-28-38-58 ) and this one was an option for Stevie to use. It easily could have been tested out by Stevie if he had more time with the proto. Maybe not something that he would have changed, but regardless it was one that was built as an option for him.
Thought I'd share, because you'll never see one like this again, unless I decide to sell it. Plus, it's just cool.
Who gets so jazzed about a nut!!!??? I do! As my user name suggests, I'm a geek when it comes to this stuff, and am quite fortunate to have some stellar contacts
FYI, I am in the process of putting together an article about the SRV Signature prototype that Stevie played as I had the good fortune of being able to interview Larry Brooks (as mentioned in another thread I posted a while back), who was the artist relations builder at Fender who built the prototype with Stevie. This is a bit of a teaser I suppose, but keep an eye out. I have some mind-blowing information that I think you'll love if you're an SRV fan.
