I recently bought the JHS Morning Glory and I like what it does but it doesnt create enough distortion to be my only overdrive pedal. Does anyone have any input as to what I should consider complimenting the Morning Glory with? Should I stick with JHS? The moonshine? I like the sounds that the Fulltone OCD creates. Do you think the OCD would pair well with the Morning Glory? What would be the JHS equivalent to the ocd? Thanks a lot.

I currently have a boss katana. Im not really sure. Im pretty new to this. Blues and Rock? No metal. I like the Black Keys sound
I don’t know about pairing two distortion pedals, haven’t tried it, but putting an overdrive in front of a distortion pedal can help a lot.

The OCD is widely acclaimed. I have the germanium version of the OCD, which I love.

A lot of other fuzz pedals to consider, too. The Big Muff series alone will make you dizzy. But I like my Big Muff op-amp a lot. Also the germanium Fultone ‘69, which is a unique up-front fuzz that really responds to your dynamics and guitar volume (but requires 9v or center positive adapter).

As Sam already suggested, since you have a Katana you might try pairing your Morning Glory with some of the onboard overdrives and distortions to see what combos sound best to you. You might even find you don't need another pedal. The MG can be somewhat transparent and works great in front of other pedals. Give it a shot and see what you think.

I use a Katana Artist as my main amp these days and I mostly use it as a 3 channel (clean, crunch, high gain) amp and if I need a little more sumpn sumpn on any channel I'll kick on my trusty SD-1 or any other mid gain OD I have lying around to add a little more drive or sustain for leads etc.

Gain stacking is a lot of fun, I suggest exploring it. I really like the sound of 2 or 3 distortion sources chained together, each one set to a fairly mild amount.

Fuzz plus overdrive into a tube amp is also really fun.

No need to stick to JHS or any one brand, least of all JHS which copies all the other designers.
The Morning Glory is a copy of the Analogman PoT which is based on the Marshall Bluesbreaker, not a JHS design.
For a Black Keys sound you want the polar opposite the morning glory which is a light dirt thing.
Black Keys dirt is more heavy fuzz, but not like one pedal makes his sound.
Artists sounds like that are not usually just a canned sound a pedal produces.

.

Find the YouTube channel 60 Cycle Hum and search the Afordaboard tag. You'll find a lot of fun stuff.

Pedals I have, and I gain stack into a clean amp:

Joyo American Sound
Golden horse
Azor 303 fuzz
Black rat
A pair of Boss DS-1

.

The Laney loudpedal has a distortion and overdrive channel plus a booster.

Can be used as an amp, direct into a cab,or can be used as a dist/od if the send goes in the front of your amp.

Oh, and it's quite loud...

The OCD is widely acclaimed. I have the germanium version of the OCD, which I love, only catch is you can’t plug it into a standard power source due to polarity, so it’s either a 9v or an extra adapter.

A lot of other fuzz pedals to consider, too. The Big Muff series alone will make you dizzy. But I like my Big Muff op-amp a lot.

What??!! I just bought an OCD germanium used and the guy told me to use a regular adapter. I haven't plugging it into my power supply normally and it has been working. ?

I use a RAT and get mucho amounts of saturation or, with a turn of the dial, rocking OD.
The filter knob in the middle, I leave at just about zero though. To me, it muddies the sound. Dunno what it's trying to do there.

Oh ****, you’re right, I mixed up the OCD-Ge with the ‘69 fuzz pedal (also germanium).

The OCD-Ge is a normal plug. I’ll fix my earlier post.

With the blues breaker type (morning glory), stacking a second OD will give you aot more of the crunch you're looking for.

I'd go with either a klon style or a Tubescreamer style. Both stack great with BBs style, and will give you a second standalone OD flavor to work with - more a preference of which you like better.

With the katana either should well.

Yup...have em both. Both are absolutely magic petals that don't have any of the harshness commonly associated with pedal gain.

Do you need more grit or more sustain/sing ?

For the former, I'd mix with a Rat. For the latter, add a compressor.

Edit: I just re-read this thread. I see you have a Boss Kantana. That means you have an MXR distortion+, a boss BD2, a Rat and more. One of those added will do it.
