When it comes to basses, I've ceased to believe that expensive is better. I've owned four Rickenbacker basses, two Alembics, plus probably four Fenders. They were all great in their way, but I've been playing an Ibanez ATK-700 for years now. I think it cost me £180 from a guy who'd hardly played it. It does everything I need and plays great.

@s5tuart is limbering up for bass duties at the next Euroguestock. He's found a bass he's happy with, and it's a Yamaha!

Upgrading an instrument you really like is a smart move IMO.
