I was just thinking recently about my Hot Wheel days when my friends would come over and we'd all race our cars. Good times.
Was on EBay a month or so ago and somehow ended up looking at vintage Hot Wheels. Ended up bidding on and buying this guy, a 1969 Twin MIll in excellent condition for like seven bucks. It's sitting in my music room on the shelf. I think I'm gonna get a couple more, probably if I can find some of the ones I had back in the day.

Never collected. I'm past the second go round with them. My son and I played with them a lot when he was little.

There is a venue nearby that I had struck up a FB acquaintance with the owner but over time he was getting to be such a butt I stopped communicating with him. I finally went to his place to see a new band in town and the place was REALLY NICE. Obviously money and effort out the ying for him and his wife to have that place to such a standard. When he was being annoying was when covid was nearly driving him out of business. So I was there being amazed at the nice place and was walking by a railing between a couple of seating areas and......THERE WAS A HOT WHEELS DRAGSTRIP SET UP ON THAT RAILING!!! I just about lost it.
The guy is still struggling with stuff outside his control relating to his business and I hope he does manage to keep it going. Hot Wheels and all.

I always gravitated toward Lesley Matchbox cars. I sent a couple to Ryan before his passing. One was a complete Matchbox train set.
He set that up around his Christmas tree I think. He had posted a pic of him and his nephew playing with it. That was nice to see.
It wasn’t worth very much as the box had water damage. He was really into Hot Wheels though.

There are layers in the whole Hot Wheels experience. My son used to drive an Imprezza but his neighbor was in the paint and body business so they found a WRX wing and painted it perfectly and wheels and this and that. Hilariously great looking car but not fast at all. So I bought him a Hot Wheels WRX and took pics of it to make it look real. lololol

I had a few, and many Matchbox vehicles. My favorite:
Got a case of 70’s vintage Star Wars men. Had them since I was 8 years old in 1977. At least that is when I got the first one. I have a 78 and an 83 Vader on my wall. I used to collect toys. Especially Mego Action figures. I have a complete set of 1974 Star Trek, with a Bill Shatner autographed Kirk.

I have my Hot Wheels from when I was a kid in the 80s. It's likely what started my love of cars and everything automotive.
Today, I still collect die-cast cars. Most are Johnny Lightnings, another brand like Hot Wheels. All of my JL's are GMC Syclones and GMC Typhoons because JL was the only company that made them for a very long time. Just recently, Hot Wheels finally got a Syclone & Typhoon die cast mold so they're making them now, also.
JL's are high quality and extremely collectible die casts. They have special versions they put out that are extremely rare and worth a lot of money. You find them among the normal JL's at the store.
For example, 1 is called a White Lightning version and it comes with white, real rubber tires on them. Like 1 in 50k cars or something. There's another special version whose name I can't recall but it comes with a white interior and those are extremely rare, also. Just like the White Lightning. Finally, they have the rarest of all models, which has a white interior AND white rubber tires. I forget the name of these but they're normally worth the most.
JL White Lightning Syclone
Johnny Lightning has been around for a long time and they're collected by countless kids of all ages.
Below are some examples from JL & HW. The last pic of Hot Wheels has Syclones on the left side. The yellow & blue trucks. The Johnny Lightning & Hot Wheels pic shows both GMC Syclones & Typhoons from JL and only Sy's from HW.
For a long time, JL only produced Syclones. It was only sometime in the 2000s that they finally added the Typhoon. At the time, I hung out at the Syclone and Typhoon forum and some guys there actually had die-cast Typhoons that looked exactly like their real life truck. It seems JL designers cruised our forum and picked out trucks they liked and made die cast versions. It was an awesome time.
Little known fact - the 1991 GMC Syclone with its 300hp turbocharged V6 and AWD was built right here where I live, in Shreveport, LA. We had a GM plant here for a long time.
That GM plant is a HUGE part of the history of Eddie Van Halen. Had it not been for that specific GM plant, Eddie likely wouldn't have ever met Val. And they never would've gotten married. And Wolf never would've been born.
Val and her family lived here at the time because her father was real big at GM and they transferred him here at some point. So they family followed, obviously. And that led up to that fateful night that Eddie met Val backstage at the concert here. The rest is history.
Had that plant not been here...who knows how things may have been different.
