Welp.....

I ordered all the stuff to put me one together.

Basswood Strat body w/ swimming pool & wilkinson vs100n route

Roasted Maple neck w/ rosewood board. 12 to 16 compound radius . 6105 nickel frets. graphtec tusq xl nut.

Black pearl hum/hum guard

Dimarzio air norton for bridge / gfs fat pat for neck

500k volume pot / 250k push push tone pot / switch

Wilkinson vs100n

hipsot open / staggered locking machines

gonna paint the body satin cobalt blue . Think I will do the neck with just linseed oil

undecided on exact switching yet but I got a super switch so that and the push push and I can do bout anything I dream up

Everything should be here within 6 weeks ..

down the rabbit hole I go

Fresh of a build of my own . . .

Basswood takes stain terribly. If you go that route, gel stain (not oil or water) is a must. It’s a fine wood otherwise, though.

And make sure your bridge and neck are lined up prior to finishing/painting the body.

Me too… building an alder 1HB strat early 80’s charvel tribute…. Found a NOS all brass trem bridge with 2 1/4” spacing like real charvels had… 12 radius, maple-22f neck, klusons, dimarzio super distortion, nitro finish…. Should smoke

water-based dye will soak into anything with fibers. i've given up on stains long time ago.
dye allows for so much flexibility - blending edges, adding colors over each other...

If you want to see something real cool which might be close to your water based color… crack open colored magic markers (ex: pink) into a container and mix it with some alcohol and then rub into the wood… and clear it, wet sand and buff…. Amazingly cool finishes

Now Im curious
Watch this…. Looks easy enough… get a torch and darken the wood for some depth and lightly sand top back to light and die the wood and heavy clear it.. I’ve just never made the right guitar to try it on…
