I saw Budgie live in 82 IIRC supporting Ian Gillan (again IIRC - it was over 40 years ago, guys) at the Southampton Gaumont in Englandshire.

They had a different guitarist by that point, can’t remember who though. Great band, with some very odd lyrics and song titles.

Can you think of guitarists who really could shine in their day, yet few remember them and many younger players give you the blank stare when you mention their name? I was lamenting over this the other day, and the first name to pop into my head was Jan Akkerman, of the Dutch band Focus, and in 1973 he was voted "Best Guitarist in the World" by Melody Maker magazine. Yet few people under the age of 40 could even identify him today, either by sight or sound.

Anyone else have a former hero that's fallen from grace due to time and age?

Saw Focus in Phoenix at the Celebrity Theater. The crowd was so enthusiastic, they did 3 encores. They weren't expecting that, and ran out of material to play. It was great fun.

He was incredible. Still have the records and still play them constantly.

I’ve got all the studio albums he released in his lifetime from Taste to Fresh Evidence. All of them are absolutely killer - there aren’t many artists you can say that about.

Blueprint was the first I got too, but not when it came out because that was 30 years before I was born!
