Fawlty Towers. Iconic. As unlikley to return as Pink Floyd, right? Must be true - Cleese has said so many times over the years. As he said, Shakespeare only gave us 2 1/2 hours of Macbeth but he gave us 6 hours of Basil.

Erm...

Brilliant idea? Or unwise to mess with a legend?

Living outside DC I never missed the Britcoms, and the PBS station here in WV used to show them... But the funding $ dried up and they disappeared. Anyway, I know them by heart; and try not to bother with tv nowadays. The current fair on tv is ghastly, and certainly not funny. Cleese should leave it be. The Brits know how to end shows properly, and not run them into the ground, something us American$ seem to love.

The Guardian regard it as a nauseating idea.

It's quite funny to read a guy having a rant about a guy who rants too much. Did anyone see his last comedy series on BBC a couple of years ago? Hold the Sunset, Cleese was interviewed & said the script was great so he did it. I hoped I'd love it. :(

Actually it's not Little Britain that's the problem so much as it's successor, Come Fly With Me. Matt Lucas played my two favorite characters, Jamaican coffee seller Precious & Taaj, where Lucas totally nailed that unusual Pakistani/Bradford accent. I remember watching it & thinking "Oh is it now OK again for white actors to play blackface characters?". But he played these characters with real affection & accurate accents.

Then, a couple of years ago, people who clearly didn't watch it first time round, decided it was racist & it's been taken off streaming services. I wonder about this. Is this the sort of sketch that two white racists would make?

"I prefer English food, ya get me, like pizza or Chinese" 😄

I stopped watching TV years ago, so this series is news to me. I think that would be a hoot! I need to pick it up on DVD.

i got all the john cleese i needed when the music retailer i worked for sent me to mgmt training and we sat around all day watching videos of him telling stories like "Gordon the Guided Missile" so that we would learn how to check back on our charges to make sure they were still on track. the fantabulous 80s they were.

Cleese has become a toffee-nosed old Brit, strangling mad over the way the world has changed, “tediously obsessed with cancel culture,” (BBC), and risibly self-important, apparently demanding respect for his deeply important work as the Minister of Silly Walks. As brilliant as Fawlty Towers was, it should not be revived. Cleese would like to imagine that the series sprung fully-formed from his brow, but I think Connie had something to do with the writing.

Connie had a lot to do with the writing, Cleese has always admitted this quite happily. In fact he did say he couldn't imagine doing any more FT without her.

Going to my cabin next weekend. Haven't watched Farty Towels in a while. I'll be sure to take my box set DVDs and have a Fawlt-a-Thon.

I’ve never seen Fawlty Towers.

Comedy has evolved a lot since then. Writers, comedians and audiences are savvier.

Bluey is the best show on tv right now.

I don't watch much TV. Watching this thread is like an alternative universe. Untill my Great Grandson started school this school year. My TV was only ever on Blippi ,Blues Clues etc.

I've been enjoying the quiet for a few months now.
