Where is the best spot to put a compressor? Before or after the dirt boxes?

There are obviously no rules when it comes to pedals and what goes where, but my reason for that comment was why would you put a pedal that's supposed to give more signal to whatever comes after it (the booster) directly into a pedal that's main purpose is to reduce dynamic range (the compressor)? Makes no sense to me.

As far as where the comp goes is relation to dirt pedals, I'd say experiment and decide what sounds best to your ear. I usually put the comp first (if I'm even using a compressor), just after my tuner, then my dirt pedals, but that's just works for me. It's gong to sound different in either configuration.
