Pilot sister has changed jobs...again.
She's joining Southwest, will be based in Dallas.

Which means she's looking for new digs. Probably near Love Field. But maybe not. Apartment over house...

To those who have knowledge of Dallas, I've a question...
Any areas that you recommend she avoid?
All of North Texas is to be avoided. Love field is in one of those areas that is a mixed bag but given the Medical District being close to Love there should be some nice places for professionals to live.

I'd tell her to be careful, I don't think they ever found who shot J.R. ;)
I was in Paris in 85...having a coffee in a little bistro, seated next to a lady, who must have been 100 years old.

She looked over at me and smiled. A bit later she looks again and asks....

"A-marel-i-con?"

I nod "yes" because I don't speak French.

She breaks out in this huge toothy smile, leans close to me as says...
"Dallas...!"

Then gives me a thumbs up.

I left the establishment wondering about our affect upon the rest of the world.

How often would she be making this trip? 287 will be the way to go...imho
She swore she'd never move back to Dallas the last time she left...
This is the third time she's been based there...

This should be the only time that she makes this particular jaunt...
She's unsure if 287 is a "local" with multiple choke points or more like the 35 with what she presumes would be fewer choke points.

And being a pilot she's used to going several hundred miles out of her way to get to where she's headed...!

Another question...
Say you're going from Amarillo to Love field...would you drive over to Oklahoma City and then south or would you use the 287?
Dang. Would be dependent on time of day, day of the week. 35 is terrible as soon as you near DFW. I have not driven those routes often enough to be able to give a complete answer. Sorry,

Good advice.

Personally I haven't driven 287 in 40 years... In that time anything could have happened. Will she be driving...alone, or a U-Haul truck, if so she may feel more secure going a more highly traveled route.

I understand Dados feelings about Dallas, but I would extend the same feelings to any large city.

We go to Colorado at least once a year, always take 287 mostly 70 or 75 mph.
You will pass through a bunch of small towns and need to slow down for a few minutes to avoid Highway patrol, no big deal.
