image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Hi everyone I’m new here had this guitar for a while now got given it for free by my friend who had it for years and had got it from a charity shop somewhere. I have never seen any photos of a Strat that looks like this one! It has a 9 hole pick guard?! Varnished neck and headstock and an e9 serial number I can’t find anything about. I’d like to try find out what year it was made who made it for fender and what the specs are of the guitar as standard if possible so I can try restore it to it’s glory days! And by the way it is a beautiful sounding guitar!

any help would be appreciated thankyou guys!!

Hi, and welcome in, I would definitely give that guitar some love, it looks really nice.

I understand these were made toward the end of the nineteen eighties and early nineties.
I think mostly 1988/89.

The only reason I know this is sometime ago I came across one for sale, I tried to get info on it at the time. Unfortunately I didn't buy it in time and it was sold.

No doubt all the info you need will follow shortly.

It's not rare, it's an E9 made in Korea Bullet by Samick - possibly ply body

The truss rod nut seems like it's totally loose and backed off - it should not show like that - it should be hidden inside the black plastic liner deep in the hole - I think it needs a setup badly....

If you want to refinish it don't even attempt to remove the paint on it now no need just use that as your base coat by roughing it up a bit and filling any dings and spray over it .

Because I thought it was a Young Chang Build at first which wasn't plywood, they were alder with maple veneer front and back - but this is an E9 (not an E7 or E10) with different bridge / different tuners etc and built by Samick. I had said 'it's not plywood' but then I realized I was wrong.....

Ah right ok I stand corrected as well I thought e9 s were young chan built :thumb:

Personally I would clean and polish everything. I wouldn't refinish it , it still looks like the body is in good nick!

I would try keep it as original as possible.

Neat guitar. There’s an E7 in red which is quite similar for sale in my local Craigslist. If there were my guitar, I don’t think I’d bother painting it. As far as I can see it’s only got a couple of blemishes. I’d polish the body and then I’d clean the hardware. The bridge and saddles should clean up ok and if anything I might replace the screws for the pick guard. Otherwise, it seems to be a nice representation of the period.

It doesn't look like plywood to me. On my early '90s Squier, you can clearly see the layers in the body cavities, but I can't see any on yours. That's not to say it definitely isn't ply, it's possible they used thinner paint on mine, or just the photo you posted somehow doesn't show the lines, I don't know.

Either way, you can't beat a free guitar! I've only ever got one free guitar, and it wasn't half as nice as that. :)
