Or do people just blindly buy PRS replacement parts

I didn't say, nor did I imply any of that.

Errr, you did imply some of that, right there in your very first post..... See, I even helpfully quoted you, so you can see that you certainly did imply some of it. The rest of it was me being facetious.

and just as you reserve the right to think that the price PRS charge is ludicrous, AND also reserve the right to come running onto a forum and making a post about how you think the price is ludicrous, I'm also entitled to think you're a bit ludicrous for doing so.

Have a nice day :)

edit: perhaps calling you ludicrous is a tad harsh on my behalf, but I'll leave my original comment there so everyone can see it - I'm not going to hide behind the edit button and pretend I didnt say something. I tend to side with @Ironwolf on this though. What does it matter to anyone what PRS charges for their parts? Nobody is forcing anyone to buy them, and I'd go a bit further and add that I find it a bit silly that people feel the need to create posts saying just that.

I struggled to afford the $1,700 CE22 in 2001. And that was before I got married to a human Spending Machine. Most of the rich lawyers I know started life with at least part of a silver spoon already.

You know how lawyers practice birth control ??
Our personalities !!!
I think alot comes down to lifestyle and spending habits. How much disposable income one has and what your priorities are.

It’s a patent jack plate tho, you might have problems finding that exact shape and material plus that jack is definitely not the same jack you can find for 3$ online

I don’t know why anyone would need that item tho, pretty much indestructible on your guitar already 🤷‍♂️
Not saying it’s a good price, but it’s definitely not an absurd amount either
The PRS jack plate on mine is much thicker than on any other guitar I've ever owned. It's pretty much bulletproof to be fair. Not claiming it needs to be that thick, it just is.

From what I’ve gathered, at one time Rickenbacker was even worse about expensive replacement parts, and in some cases won’t sell a part unless the broken part is sent to them (ostensibly, to prevent counterfeit Rickys).

I love PRS and Rickenbacker guitars…in other people’s hands.

It’s not the cost, it’s the feel. I’ve just never found one that I liked enough to buy.

So after speaking with someone at PRS, I have a better idea of why it costs what it costs. The plate is nickel or chrome plated brass and as someone said, it's proprietary. Along with the fact that it's made in the US, I can understand where the price comes from.

So, maybe it's not as ludicrous as I initially thought.

I never had children. I definitely could see children being a money pit. 💰
I am sure it's rewarding to have a large family but didn't appeal to me early on.

Its not that kids are "money pits". I chose to spend all of my extra money on my daughter. So much that I went without because I wanted her to have things. I needed new shoes. New clothes. All that.

I finally understood what my own mother meant all those times when she talked about needing shoes & clothes but never would buy any. It's because she would rather provide for her children than for herself. It's an indescribable feeling.

I miss it all terribly. 🥺

Ford did that sort of thing for a while on 1 specific model line and they may still do it today. It was always the Shelby Mustangs and I assume the Ford GT now. They wouldn't sell replacement parts to anyone unless you proved that you owned one and had an actual need for that part.

They wouldn't just sell 2 hoods to a Shelby owner without verification he had 2 Shelby's that needed hoods. It was crazy the first time I heard it and it's crazy today. And those parts? OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. We're talking $3000 grilles(normally a few hundred), $8000 hoods, $17000 superchargers and $25000 wheels, etc...which was another way they kept people from trying to build fake Shelby's; the price is out of reach for all but the most affluent owners.

Ahh yes, proprietary tone metallurgy. Only PRS could get away which that corny of a gimmick.

Yup. We’re all totally blind, and just hand over money hand-over-fist whenever someone mentions the brand name. We don’t care. None of us PRS owners can play, we just have lots of money we don’t know what to do with, and so have to find an outlet for it.*

*ofc none of this is true, it’s a ludicrous suggestion.
I'm totally blind and I resemble that remark.

No, its just a proprietary shape. Meaning it's not just a standard square or rectangle plate you can buy from anywhere. I didn't mean the brass was proprietary.

Who cares?

If you can find something of equivalent quality at a lower price elsewhere, buy that. Nobody is forcing you to but anything from PRS.

The fact that you’ve been irritated enough by this to actually email the company is bizarre.

All I did was ask them why it was so expensive. It's bizarre to get an answer to a question? I guess one would think that if they never email companies. I email companies all the time and have zero qualms about asking about anything. There's absolutely nothing bizarre about that.

Who said I was irritated other than you? FYI posting about something doesn't mean one is irritated or angry or anything. It means they wanted to share information.
