Geesh I am not even a lawyer or a dentist and I own several core models.
Maybe the lawyers and dentists are playing private stocks. 😝
I struggled to afford the $1,700 CE22 in 2001. And that was before I got married to a human Spending Machine. Most of the rich lawyers I know started life with at least part of a silver spoon already.

You know how lawyers practice birth control ??

As a lawyer who plays blues on a PRS...I sorta resemble that remark. I wouldn't replace a jack plate because of a surface scratch. Nobody can see the jack plate while I'm playing, nobody can see it with the guitar hanging on the wall either.

If somebody got all Pete Townsend with it, maybe. Or a weirdly fortuitous bullet accident that didn't destroy anything else... Like I said, I'm struggling to imagine.
I'm happy to report that the four bullet wounds on my '89 HM did not cause damage to my jack plate in any way.

I have a core CU24. Currently a wall hanger. Beautiful guitar and gigged hard by me years ago. Doesn’t suit my needs atm though. Certainly not to be sniffed at - out of all my guitars it’s hands down the best built of all of them - past AND present

.

Owners spend that because they don't want to compromise the carefully crafted guitar tone. It's a sum of all the parts, as the saying goes.

Just wait for inflation to kick in.

Well, you can set any price on any item you want to sell.
If nobody buys it you know the price is too high.
Maybe the jack is hand selected and the plate is polished by Paul himself, giving a lifetime guarantee, no questions asked. Then it seems like a fair price.

All the best,
Robin

It’s a patent jack plate tho, you might have problems finding that exact shape and material plus that jack is definitely not the same jack you can find for 3$ online

I don’t know why anyone would need that item tho, pretty much indestructible on your guitar already 🤷‍♂️
Not saying it’s a good price, but it’s definitely not an absurd amount either

That jack ain't no better than a $3 Switchcraft jack. Guarantee it.

You know what comes in a 594 McCarty? A standard switchcraft jack. I don't doubt it's the same jack used in all of their guitars.

Yup. We’re all totally blind, and just hand over money hand-over-fist whenever someone mentions the brand name. We don’t care. None of us PRS owners can play, we just have lots of money we don’t know what to do with, and so have to find an outlet for it.*

*ofc none of this is true, it’s a ludicrous suggestion.

I didn't say, nor did I imply any of that.

I guess 8 bucks doesn't buy jack anymore.

It does if you don't buy it from PRS.

A Switchcraft jack is still $3. As far as the plate, you can get a genuine, new PRS jack plate for like $32. Still a lot. Not nearly as bad as $48 +shipping & tax.

Most people would only need the $3 jack. But PRS doesn't sell that so it makes you wonder how many guys that take their guitar to a tech for anything have bought that entire $48 thing because the didn't know any better.

I mean, I can't tell you how often I see people looking for a part online and can't find it even though it's offered by hundreds of vendors. So it's very possible, I would think, that someone has bought that thinking they had to have it specifically because it's for their PRS.

Switchcraft jacks always sounded a little sterile to me tbh…
I thought a pure tone jack made my guitar sound different. Turns out I was wrong, which is what I figured was happening when it was happening. The 1st time I installed it, I thought it made the guitar sound different so I took it right back out 2 mins later. 6 months later, I swapped it in again and it made zero difference. It still sounded exactly the same so I'm sure I was mistaken.

Ive never installed one thinking it was going to affect the sound at all. I only use them because they seem to be high quality, I like the way they engage and they're just a bit smaller than a standard Switchcraft jack.

I also edited my last post to add a little info. It seems that PRS uses a std Switchcraft jack in the McCarty 594, so it would only make sense that they use them in most or all of their guitars that call for a standard jack. Based on that, I'm going to assume that's what they use.

I guess it's not far fetched for them to charge another $40-43 for a plate depending on how it's made. And the fact that it's likely made here. Still. That's expensive.
