Hi everybody, I just bought a 93-94 62 CIJ Strat and it's amazing! The dealer told me that this model has an alder body and American pickups. Is there anyway to know the spec level (low, premium etc.) from the letters that are under the neck? It reads H ST-62 Y. I'm attaching a pic.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum
Not really enough to tell you anything need a full set of detailed pictures to have a chance preferably including the neck pocket and back of the pickups. There were several catalogued ST62s at the time see
Also some uncatalogued export models.

That is CIJ, made between 1999-2002. pickups look like texas specials.
Not a pickup expert and they do look like Texas specials but wouldn't we expect to see a Red dot and a Blue dot?
Wood looks like Alder to me which is a good sign bit surprised at the lack of markings in the neck pocket but doesn't mean much. @Guitarmageddon will be able to reveal all I'm sure.

Not all texas specials have colored dots according to this thread.

From what I understand there were 2 models -premium with alder and American pickups and lower lever with basswood and Japanese pickups so I guess this is the premium one. it sure feels like one.

Definitely looks like Alder and a very nice looking guitar.....Congrats and enjoy....

I am shocked though to see nice pickups and dime sized pots....

interesting i checked in your site and it says that they started using Texas specials in Japanese ST62's in 1996...but the dealer and also the serial database site said it's a 93-94....maybe only the cij ones from those years used Texas specials and the mij's american vintage...

You have to appreciate that Fender Japan only catalogued domestic models they also produced export models which aren't catalogued it is more than possible they produced earlier ones with Texas Specials for export

Fender Japan Texas Specials look different from the bottom and have never had red or blue dots.....
