Within the realm of Fender sunburst finishes there are many varying styles of how these sunbursts finishes were applied.

Currently, for the 2 Tone Sunburst finshes, Fender offer the regular style which, usually has a dark outer rim with an ever so slight „orange/amber“ line and a lighter amber center.

Then there is a „Wide Fade“ 2 Tone sunburst. I first noticed these in 2014 on the 60th anniversary 1954 Stratocasters.
The darker outer tim is now much wider and it blends into an dark brownish/ligtly orange inner rim and fades into the amber center.

For photo references the first two pictures are a Custom Shop Strat with a standard 2 Tone finish and the last 3 are a Custom Shop Strat with a Wide Fade 2 Tone finish. All ash bodies.

I was wondering what you prefer? The standard style or the wide fade?

FYI a blending of the 2 colors of a 2 tone sunburst doesn't make it a 3 tone sunburst.

Meaning there can be black/blend/brown(outer color/blend/inner color). It doesn't have to be a stark transition directly from black to the center color for it to be 2 tone, despite what your opinions are.

If there's only 2 distinct colors, it's not 3 tone. No matter how wide the fade is from the first to 2nd color.

Due to slight color blindness in the red/brown/green range it is quite difficult for me to correctly discern between most 2TSB & 3TSB finishes. I'm just thankful to not be "tone deaf" also!
