So, I received the wiring harness today and put everything together. I'm still on the fence about using the parchment pickguard. it looks more yellow against the red than I though, but I'm wondering what all of you think? I may end up going with all white or possibly white with parchment...
I don't think the type of material the fretboard is made out of is going to matter as much as the electronics like pickups and wiring and of course the setup makes a huge difference to the tone. Mexican made Fender guitars are made out of good parts. Sometimes the "craftsmanship" leaves some to...
Thanks. I knew I could save around $30-40 if I got the parts myself, but this just made it easier. Also, I’ve been putting this together during my breaks at work and I don’t want to sit there soldering for an hour on break.
it’ll happen on any plasticy type of finish which polyurethane is essentially. The clear that is exposed to oxygen and light will turn yellow with time. It’s slow and gradual so you don’t notice but once the pickguard is off you see the difference. The yellowing is desirable to many players.
I have an exclusive classic 50s Strat and tele. Both are awesome guitars. One thing that throws me off on them is the two should have the exact same neck profile (“slim c”) but the Strat’s is extremely chunky. So there is some level of variance within the same spec. Unlike the US stuff, there’s...
I got in this pickguard shield along with the pickups and some other stuff. I’m still waiting on the pickguard and wiring harness, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting those till next week.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up going with this. It has the brass shaft cts pots, cleaner wiring than I could do and comes with a pure tone output jack. So, I should be good to go! I stuck with standard wiring - back tone pot for bridge and middle. front pot for neck with standard 5 way...
That guitar isn’t gonna sell for what they’re asking, but I wanted to point out that the sellers don’t really have much of a choice. To sell new guitars, Fender requires insane minimum annual order amounts. Looking for deals on used gear to flip is about the only way a small local shop can have...
I have a couple of MIJ 50s reissues. The Strat has CS 54 pickups with vintage spec chunky neck 7.25” radius and tiny vintage frets. I love that guitar. It’s just not as easy to play as a modern neck. I have a harder time bending when the frets are small and the action is too low.
Yeah it does seem that way I think mostly because of the neck. I was originally going to go with the .1 fender capacitor that they used around that time but it really cuts out a lot of highs so I figured I’d try the orange drop first.
Otherwise I think what reminds me of a 59 is the red with...
I have an 08 classic vibe 50s strat which is remarkably lightweight. The entire guitar weighs around 6.75 lbs. I'm not sure what forces are at play but it's probably the only reason I haven't sold it as I have better quality Fender alternatives but the weight draws me back.
Here are the first items received - the body and bridge. The bridge mounted perfectly. Later today the neck should come in along with the tuners and a bunch of screws and other hardware.
I’ve been working on a list of parts for a 59-inspired partscaster for a few weeks. On Friday, I pulled the trigger. The pets started coming in yesterday. I’d like to use this thread to document the progress and the final product. Below are the list of parts I chose. In 58-59, Fender started...
What type of polish was it? You need something that can cut like a rubbing compound and a good polish both with a good orbital polished. You could also take it to any good auto detailing place or body shop. They could polish it up to shine like a diamond.
Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never experienced the common complaints with a floating tremolo like going out of tune easily or what not. I set it up to Fender specs - 1/8 flat off the body. I find that’s really the sweet spot for balancing functionality with tuning stability.
I found something like this for $50. It looks like 250k CTS pots and a Fender switch. I know I can do it cheaper, but this seems easy and it's just a few leads to solder.
Is it poly or nitro? Use the appropriate automotive compound/polish and you'll get it to be looking as good as new. That looks like a stain from being on a stand a long time.
