    Considering this 59 strat

Thats a good deal too at the moment imo for a 100% stock early 59’, very nice. Good weight. Original case is a big + too; the gold interior, tweeds are very scarce in that condition ($2.5k+ USD to source if u can find one in that kind of shape). Looks good based on photos. My only comment is...

Caught between the horns of a dilemma.

    1) OP literally said the guitar looks like sh!t, sounds like sh!t and plays like sh!t… and you are telling him to waste time putting more cheap after market parts on it and spending time and money to have someone dress its frets, rewind pickups etc? 2) Please re-read OP’s original post and then...

Tuning stability, trem vs hard tail. Anyone know?

Everything else held constant, hardtail strats SHOULD be more stable in comparison with tremolo, especially if the trem system is setup to float (bridge not flush with the body; "floating" above the body). With that said, I have yet to play a well made strat with a floating trem system that has...

Caught between the horns of a dilemma.

I’m going purely based on the information given by the OP who said, quote: “missing the pickguard, wiring, pots, switch, trem springs and claw and having a set of horrid Kluson tuners installed, which I replaced with Schallers […] The frets are badly worn and the fretboard has divots from years...

Caught between the horns of a dilemma.

I would only restore if the body has no routes and finish is original… the premium between an original finish/not routed guitar in original form vs not is very enticing. Once you get into the refin territory (especially with opaque finishes) with routs on the body… it’s almost NEVER financially...

Slab Board vs. Veneer (Curved) Rosewood

Just get all 3 (maple, slab and veneer), get an alder body and ash body too in each (so 6 guitars total) and you are good to go!!! [to everyone reading this is 2032 - hello, it is the end of 2022 here, trump just announced he’s running again, some spaceman just bought twitter, most say the...

Can this fingerboard be brazilian rosewood

yeah thats the edge of the tree, that part of the cut tends to be drier/less oily and doesn’t look the same as my boards because mine are from the heart of the tree (the second to last of your photos, u can see the transition for outside edge of tree to inside as the board gets darker). See...

    This is worth seeing.........

Lmao not worth $100k usd… but it’s ATB so they’ve applied their standard premium of 30% - 50% over fair market value as always :D $60k usd at the most is what it’d be worth in slightly worn condition with no case candy, so given it’s condition, it might go for $70k usd is my guess (though I...

Remember? Guitar prices when you were 16?

2011-2012 is when I was 16, horrible quality iirc, no rosewood. I remember begging my parents to get me a baked maple board, 50’s les paul tribute for $899 CAD. I think vintage market was still recovering from the crash.

Do Custom Shops ever ship with a shim in the neck pocket?

Tell me you’ve never shimmed a neck without telling me you’ve never shimmed a neck. I don’t think you read what I actually wrote and just decided to comment for the sake of commenting.

Do Custom Shops ever ship with a shim in the neck pocket?

    1) It varies by guitar but it also can become a question of intonation. Yes, the saddle height adjustment screws may not have enough space to be lowered on a vintage-style bridge. You may also have enough space to adjust the height BUT run into the saddle spring adjustment screws being maxed out...

Do Custom Shops ever ship with a shim in the neck pocket?

Hope this helps from a player/luthier point of view.... What's wrong with a shim? Almost all pre-cbs strats I've had (the real deal ones that the master built stuff tends to be based on) had factory shims, including the ones I have now (my 60', 64' and 57'). Don't get me wrong. Without the...

SCAM ALERT! Pre-CBS Tremolo Ashtray Covers (REAL VS FAKE)

Yes, the broker through whom I bought the guitar is very reputable. The guitar’s provenance is also there: 1 owner. Photos of him with the guitar dating back to when he first got it in 65’. The ashtray’s wear fits exactly with where the edges of this particular strat’s bridge continuously...

SCAM ALERT! Pre-CBS Tremolo Ashtray Covers (REAL VS FAKE)

I hope the below helps others identify real vs fake pre-cbs ashtray covers… as I think vendors on Reverb are making thousands from sales of fake aged ones. I could not find any concrete information on how to identify a real vs fake pre-cbs tremolo “ashtray” covers. So in the name of science...

    1961 Strat

I did research on a 60' refin 2 months ago or so when I passed on a deal myself. Ask was around 10k usd. Also no original case. Refret, middle pup rewound, neck untouched but logo worn off. Without the gold* inside, brown tolex case (which is worth 2-3k), $9k is okay imo.
