Yeah it really does looks great. Between the 3, they all look vintage. I’m actually waiting on a blonde pbass from MJT. I want that grain to poke through since the body is ash. If they don’t get the yellowish tinge I’m after I’ll is my UV light to yellow the clear.
That’s also what I’m talking about with the MJT and AV finishes and whoever else opts out from using bomb proof polyurethane sealer. Yes they’re obviously not the same finishes as that beauty but as long as they get close is all I’m after.
My friend had a AV58 that he bought new. It’s got some...
That’s insane!!! Most people will say any real wear is fake or the custom shop looks fake. Sure they can. It’s just impossible to junk real wear because it’s usually played by one persons it’s whole life. It wears to them, how they play and hold it. So really there’s no right or wrong wear...
Yup, I love their finished but I do agree. They get close but I still think the flash coat of the AV series is much closer.
Funny because I noticed the same thing with the checking. My custom shops always seem to be vertical and MJT is always horizontal
All MJT
Wow, they actually all look real to me. If I had to guess that one was MJT I’d say from the back pics, the bottom one. Really that just a guess as they all look good. The bottom one could be a AV58
Oh yeah 100%. The nitro or finishes used today are far from what they used to be. I’m totally fine with the AV and custom shop finishes. They at least look and feel the part.
Which is what MJT and others accomplish without using the polyurethane or whatever bomb proof sealer. They all...
That’s kind of what I’m saying. The polyurethane/nitro combo on these 50’s and 60’s reissue when they get gigged hard to actually show any wear, look more along the lines of the 70’s worn finishes. The ones with the polyurethane and nitro I mean. Just like that 74 and the Fullerton 57 you...
I’m just glad guitars and guitar related parts are fairly inexpensive compared to most other hobbies. So $500 for pickups, sure. I’d pay that any day. Is it worth it? Not at all.
A $10k mountain bike is it worth it? 2 years later it’s out dated and worth less than half. What about sending kids...
If it’s a MIJ strat then it would be polyurethane or polyester. There will be no lacquer unless it’s a very early JV strat.
Also lots of people test the trem spring cavity and get that result. It’s because there’s usually very little sealer in there and finish for that matter. If you say...
I was thinking about this thread more and how modern nitro on the AVRI’s will wear. Of the 15 or so I’ve had over the years, none of them really had any wear. All bought used and ranging from 96 to 2010.
I didn’t keep most of them long enough to show any play wear anyway. They had the usual...
I’ll gladly help you out until I’m blue in the face but the questions you ask have no real answer. No one can tell you what’s better, what will be worth more, what’s the difference, how does it feel and sound. The answers to those things are all subjective or personal preference to a lot of...
